This safari includes one night in Kigali and 2 nights in Volcanoes National Park, the home of over 300 habituated Mountain Gorillas.  The program operates in reverse.

After exploring the vibrant city of Kigali, including a visit to the historic and moving Genocide Memorial, travelers head to Volcanoes National Park for 2 days of primate viewing. Mountain Gorillas are the star of the primate show, but Golden Monkeys are stunningly beautiful and fun to watch. We recommend opting for both. While the trek to see gorillas can sometimes be long, Golden Monkeys often nest near the entrance to the Park, making for an easier day of walking.

Kigali - Volcanoes national Park

Spend the morning on a privately guided tour of Kigali, including time at the powerful Genocide Memorial, a must see. After lunch at Kigali Serena Hotel, travel northwest about 2.5 hours to through the beautiful terraced hillsides that display Rwanda’s landscape. Arrive at Ruhengeri, the base for Gorilla trekking at the Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park). The town itself, located only 15 miles from the Uganda border, is relatively a small city of about 70,000 people. The constant flow of humanity is quite remarkable. The town has great views of the surrounding volcanoes. Check into your accommodation. Rest of day at leisure to explore the town. (B,L,D)

Volcanoes National Park

This morning, your guide will transfer you to Volcanoes National Park for your gorilla trek with an expert primate guide and tracking team. The trek to the gorilla family may be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 3 hours. Porters are available to assist you with the trek, this is inexpensive and highly recommended. Those who have mobility challenges can hire a team of porters to carry them on a sedan chair. After an amazing, never to be forgotten hour with the gorilla family, you will descend and transfer back to your accommodation for lunch. The afternoon is free for you to explore the town or opt for a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village at around $35 per person. (B,L,D)

Departure

If your departure flight is 5pm or later, it is possible to do a Golden Monkey trek this morning.
